Alan Shuptrine
BIOGRAPHY:
(1963 - )
Over the past 24 years Alan Shuptrine has emerged as a leading practitioner in the centuries-old art of carving and water gilding fine frames, wood carving, sgrafitto etching, watercolor paintings, antique restorations, objects d'art and paintings and decorative arts in several other mediums. Alan is most sought after for his mastery in designing one-of-a-kind unique art frames, antique restorations, and for his fine realistic watercolors. Through his company, Shuptrine Fine Art Group, which houses both Gold Leaf Designs & Gallery and Shuptrine Fine Art, he and his wife Bonny have worked with museums, galleries, private art collectors, and artists nationwide. Alan’s desire to pursue a career in the arts grew out of his natural inclination and influence of his father, the late Hubert Shuptrine, a nationally recognized watercolor realist.
Born in 1963, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Alan's pursuit of the arts included schooling at The Baylor School, The University of the South, and The University of Tennessee. Alan is renowned for his precise attention to detail, and his love of dramatic realism. His influences include the works of his father, Hubert Shuptrine, Charles Prendergast, Stephen Scott Young, Andrew Wyeth,Winslow Homer, and John Singer Sargent. His work can be seen in many public and private collections and he is a member of the Society of Gilders, The American Institute of Conservation, The Tennessee Watercolor Society, The Southern Watercolor Society, and the founder of The Master Craftsmens’ Society.
